lyrics

I think you're running from something, Vera
Can't tell but maybe I am too
So come let's pick apart the Sunday Mirror
Some folks just haven't got a clue
They say our attitude is far from normal
How long we're gone beyond the mean
Let's dress this silliness in something formal
And masquerade in the obscene

I may have overstepped my boundaries, Vera
Sometimes I don't know what I say
And in a vain attempt to make things clearer
I may have thrown it all away
Some spin their yarn about new beginnings
But they're so hung up on the past
Locked in historical underpinnings
Our end's already been forecast

Floating beneath
Life on the surface
Floating beneath
Idle of purpose

And if I've overstayed my welcome, Vera
You've been so kind to recognize
A fellow vagabond, or something nearer
A partner in a million lies
We knew conspiracy would lead to questions
We led them tripping through the maze
Lolling and calling out false suggestions
Complicit in the latest craze

Floating beneath
Life on the surface
Floating beneath
Idle of purpose

Load your guns at once, don't let me in
Fire away at your forgotten kin

about

Mount Pressmore Austin, Texas

Mount Pressmore makes music that crosses cultures and transcends categories. It’s Herbie Hancock meeting Peter Gabriel in a Danny Elfman film score. It’s a comedy, for sure, but one that balances social satire with self-examination.
